Ecology Test

You will be taking the Ecology Test during class.

Friday, September 21, 2018

Ecosystem Project - Final Day

You will spend the time finishing the work on your project.  If you are done working on your project, you will be able to use class time to study for the test.

Your list of vocabulary words will be collected and returned at the end of the period.

Ecosystem System Project Day 6

The test will be on Monday, September 24, 2018.  The Study guide is posted on the Pt Loma Home Page.  Click on the link below to access.
Page 7
For today you will work on Adaptations and Relationships in your biome.

1) Adaptations: Name 2 different organisms in your biome and describe an adaptation that each one has to help it survive in that biome.

2) Symbiotic Relationships: Describe 2 different symbiotic relationships found in your biome.

3) Competition: Describe 2 examples of competition found in your biome

4) Endangered Species: Describes 1 threatened or endangered species in your biome and explain why it has become threatened or endangered.

Ecosystem Project Day 5

Test will be on Monday, September 24, 2018. Click on link to PLHS webpage for study guide
Food Web 2. Page 6
You will construct a Food We using the following animals. The ecosystem represents a farm area.  The corn is the main source of food for many of the herbivores in the area.   You do not have to draw pictures, you can just use the animal names and draw arrows between them.

The species to use for this food web are: snake, corn, caterpillar, deer, crow, mouse, cougar, squirrel, micro-oganisms, (decomposers).

1) Producers
2) Primary consumers
3) Tertiary consumers
4) herbivores
5) Carnivores
6) Omnivores
7) What elements are missing from this food web?

Ecosystem Project Day 4

On page 5 place a copy of the map of North America and follow the instructions listed on the page.

Monday, September 17, 2018

Ecosystem Project Day 3 - Food Web

On pages three and 4 of your booklet:
1) Identify 10 organisms that live in your biome. Include plants and animals.

2) Food chains - create at least 4 food chains that exist in your biome. Each food chain must have at least 3 to 4 organisms.  Make certain your arrow goes from energy source to energy user.

3) Assemble your food chains into a food web.
a) Use different colored pencil for each food chain within the food web.
b) The food web must show all the organisms from your food chains and may include more.
c) Be sure to include the sun and decomposers
d) Draw and name each organism in your food web.

4) Energy Pyramid - Create an energy pyramid for your biome
a) Place each organism into the correct trophic level.  Just list names of each organism.

September 10, 2018 - September 14, 2014

Friday, September 14, 2018

Day 2:  The following information will be listed on page 2. You will continue to work in class with your partner.

1) List 5 abiotic factors that could be found in this biome
2) Identify the locations that represent your biome on the paper copy of the world map provided.
Color in the appropriate areas represented by biome.  Cut out the map and tape or glue it to page 2.
3) National Parks / State Parks - List at least 2 parks, monuments, or places of interest in your biome.
4) Advertising Slogan - write an advertising slogan to get people to visit and promote the positive aspects of your biome.

Thursday, September 13, 2018

You will be taught how to write a lab report. This should be kept in your binder under the lab section for future reference.

In addition, you will start a new unit: Principles of Ecology and Communities and Biomes.
You will work in groups of two to complete the project.

Research for this project can be done using the textbook, or the internet by using the iPods available in class.

Day 1- In class:

1) You and you partner will select a biome from the list provided
2) You will create a booklet.  On the front page you will have a title, draw or print a picture to  represent your biome. Include one picture of an animal, and one of a plant found in your biome.
3) Include a climatograph to show annual weather conditions; temperature and precipitation.
4) Include at least 2 interesting facts about the area.

Please keep this sheet in the Lab section of your biology binder.

Thursday, September 6, 2018
You will read through the Scientific Thinking and Process worksheet and answer the questions.
You will then correct your own paper  in class.

Your knowledge and understanding of the Scientific Process will be tested by reading four short paragraphs and then be asked to identify the following experimental concept from each paragraph:
a: independent variable
b) dependent variable
c) Control group
d) Experimental group

Scientific Language Worksheet.
Scientific language is made up of root words that are linked together to have different meaning. If you learn the meaning of the root words, you will find the scientific vocabulary easier to understand.

You will use the root words to interpret the meaning of a few scientific words.
