Molecular Biology of the Gene- Introduction

You will review the macromolecules and the monomers:
Macromolecules                                                               Monomers
1) Proteins                                                                        Amino acids
2) Carbohydrates                                                             Glucose
3) Lipids                                                                            Fatty acids and glycerol
4) Nucleic Acids                                                               Nucleotides.

The bonds holding amino acids together are called peptide bonds.  A polypeptide has less than a 100 amino acids bonded together.  More than a 100 amino acids bonded together is called a protein.  (The words proteins and polypeptides are used interchangeably and some textbooks do not distinguish between them.)

You will also be introduced to Viruses working as saboteurs within our cells.
